They don’t necessarily go viral every week but they have a track record of being consistent. My take is that this segment actually has brains. They are basically one of the following: focusing on a niche, such as finance, education, tech reviews, fitness.
One of the reasons why brands love them is the trust their audience has in them. Consequently, the sponsorship money keeps flowing. They probably keep a low profile and do not brag about it but they do have a stable source of income. So, what do you think? Is stability better than fame?
Speaking of the majority, small creators. They release content with wishful thinking. They look forward to getting views. They keep checking their analytics on a daily basis. The vast majority of them do not make a single penny. There are some cases where a few thousand rupees a month is the income.
At this level, ad revenue is negligible. Brands do not respond. Growth is difficult to see. What Ralph says is quite astonishing, either that many creators stop here. Not due to the fact that they don’t have talent. But that money takes time.

Most of them perform very well. Then yeah, brands also earn money. They get sales. They get the spotlight. Creators literally become their moving advertisements. But only if the creators really think through it.

This is the heartfelt part. You watch the views increase. You read the comments. But the bank balance hardly moves. Increasing followers can be unrelated to making more money. Going viral does not equal becoming rich. Some creators don’t get pricing strategies. They go for the cheaper brand deals. They undervalue their own worth. Can you imagine how frustrating that feels?
Here’s my take on this. India’s creator economy is not a level playing field. It is quite like a pyramid. A few earn the majority of the income. A certain number earn just enough to sustain themselves. Most, barely make any money at all.
However, the situation is slowly changing. A bigger number of creators are getting business skills. Platform features getting monetization options is on its way. Without haste, work they say. Plan diligently, be wise. Luck also plays a role.
